Peter will be presenting a discussion based upon the following short reading:
I am rereading “Heartwood of the Bodhi Tree”, by Buddhadasa Bhikkhu, a well-respected Thai meditation master. One particular passage stood out for me, and I decided that I will send out this document a few days before our usual Wednesday evening talk, which I will be facilitating. I hope you will find reading the long quote interesting, and it will provide the topic for discussion during that meeting. I intend to read it aloud during the talk and elaborate on certain areas of the text to clarify the concepts described in those pages. I look forward to hearing about your reading of the extensive quote and answering questions that might arise.

Understanding Voidness and Virtue
During this talk, Peter focuses on the relationship between the Buddhist concept of Voidness (Sunnata) and neuroplasticity, the inherent complex and impersonal way the function of the brain creates a person’s self experience. Using an excerpt from “Heartwood of the Bodhi Tree–the Buddha’s Teaching on Voidness”, by Buddhadasa, he reviews how important the cultivation of a virtuous life is for supporting the process of Awakening.
